Mesotherapy for Sports Injuries, Weight Loss and Cellulite
Mesotherapy is a technique, invented in 1952 by Dr. Michel Pistor, where numerous injections are placed into the fatty layer beneath the skin. The substance injected is generally a compounded mixture of medicines, herbs and vitamins and is purported to improve the signs of aging, treat cellulite or reduce fat. The microinjections are relatively painless, and side effects are limited to minor bruising.
When performed by a well-trained physician, mesotherapy is a safe and effective alternative for cellulite reduction, spot weight reduction, and face and neck rejuvenation, and for treatment of hair loss (alopecia). In fact, during the 50 years that Mesotherapy has been practiced, no deaths have occurred as a result. Unlike surgery, mesotherapy is virtually painless and requires no post-operative recovery time, no heavy bandages or girdles and no anesthesia. It is done by injecting various homeopathic and non-homeopathic medications into the mesoderm layer of the skin (the middle layer). The chemical injections weaken the fat pockets and help to smooth out the ruffled appearance of cellulite-ridden skin.
The technique is useful for reducing fat deposits of the abdomen, love handles , bra strap area, buttocks, thighs and even the neck. Six biweekly injections of phosphatidylcholine into these areas gradually reduces the fat deposits.
Mesotherapy is perform once or twice a week over a period of 4 to 8 weeks. Some individuals may require a course of 4 weeks, although a full treatment course takes 8 weeks. Mesotherapy is used to treat a broad range of illnesses and pain conditions. This minimally invasive approach has shown successful results in many areas: sports injuries, hair regrowth, alopecia, and cosmetic treatments. It is generally considered a safe procedure and requires no anesthesia. The injections cause slight discomfort, similar to the pain experienced from waxing.
However, mesotherapy is not an alternative to a healthy lifestyle, but is a powerful tool for addressing fat, cellulite, and aging. Occasional touch-ups may be required. Mesotherapy is actually a medical therapy that can be used to treat headaches, backaches and a broad range of illnesses and medical conditions. It can also treat cosmetic conditions such as acne, stretch marks, scars and wrinkles. It is also an excellent tightening treatment, with proven effectiveness in smoothing problems areas such as the hips, thighs, and buttocks.
Treatments for the face, neck, arms and hands are recommended several times each year. This a very popular procedure in France. Treatments are typically done 2 weeks apart. During your consultation, the number and frequency of treatments will be discussed. Treatments may run anywhere from 3 to 15 sessions depending on the severity of the problem. As with any medical procedure there are risks involved with mesotherapy and you should discuss these risks with your doctor prior to undergoing any procedure.
This technique is a popular treatment to get rid of cellulite. Cellulite commonly appears on the hips, buttocks and legs. It is often thought of as merely a disease of vanity, but in reality represents a disorder of the collagen meshwork that holds the fat in place. Cellulite is an accumulation of fat, fluid and toxins trapped in a hardened network of connective tissue fibers in the Mesoderm layer. The fat cells inflate, causing a rippling and puckering of the skin, commonly referred to as orange peel skin. Cellulite reduction from smaller areas takes as many as 8-10 sittings of Mesotherapy to obtain the desired results.
Results can usually be seen on or after the third appointment, at which time the clinician can determine what protocol to use for the remaining treatments. Results are long lasting and should be supported by an effective diet and exercise program.
